I am Professor of Politics at the University of Sheffield. There’s more information on what this means at http://www.shef.ac.uk/politics/staff/grahamharrison

I have been researching African politics, development, and global political economy for nearly twenty years. I have spent over a year of those twenty carrying out fieldwork in East Africa and making short visits to other countries in Africa for conferences.

My political starting point is Marxist. I also like ideas that emerge from all sorts of areas as long as I can retrofit them into my leftiness. There are quite a few kinds of political thinking I don’t like and I will likely write about these here when I have drunk too much coffee. I am also easily excited and distracted by things that are not immediately relevant to my research which is bad for my professional standing but, I hope, good for this website.
